I wouldn't worry about him getting used for fighting-- Like a previous poster mentioned..people who Fight game roosters, are looking for game roosters. Cock fighting is a HUGE business in the sothwest, people that breed and sell their roosters take alot of pride in their "breeding programs" and buyers want a 'sure thing' which means they are going to be looking for a reputable breeder that has fought several cocks that have WON fights. They simply are not going to invest in a cheap bird that may or may not fight...and unlike dog fighting..they don't need 'bait' animals to teach the roosters to fight---they do that on their own. Game birds are bred with a specific purpose--to be aggressive in the ring.
Craigslist gets alot of bad hype--mostly because EVERYONE and anyone uses the site..its no different than putting an ad in the paper, you'll get the same amount of coo-coo's either way. Don't be affraid of posting there, you'll just have to tell the people you feel are a little 'off' NO. After all, you may find a good home for him on Craigslist. A lot of people here seem to like Americaunas and there might be someone out there that wants some cute babies

. Another thing you might try, is to look up your local 4-H club--the club directior/president may know of a child that is looking for a show bird.
Also some feed stores may take him..but you will have to visit them/ or call and see if they will take him. They will most likely say yes, but that they can't give you anything for him, before they turn around and sell him for $10--which means you are gaurunteed he wll find a home..you are just letting them keep the fee.
And people that might want to eat him (if you are worried about that two) aren't going to pay more than what they would pay at the grocery store. The going price for Roosters in Phoenix is $10--if you have extremely rare breeds that are worth alot more, good luck selling them. Its a tough market here. OR maybe I just live too far away for people to drive
