Looking For a Local Farm in NC

I am on a mission, and I was starting to think I was asking too much!

My husband and I are looking for a farm I can buy fresh dairy from, as well as 'humanely' kept fresh chicken, maybe pork or beef as well. I've been interested for awhile... I just didn't realize what a hassle it was to find what we are looking for.

A lot of farms don't have much out their listed... just names and numbers... no websites or listing on what they specialize in!

We have a neighbor with a friend who raises cattle for beef and we can go in with them and buy a whole cow, but that's it. Its way out of our budget to go doing that when I don't eat beef or pork, just my husband.

So if you know a good small farm, maybe one in Harnett, Johnson or Wake county would great. Some place I could make several visits too... for repeat purchases, as well as knowing how the animals are raised... that would be awesome!

HI! Thank you!

I've been using the Local Harvest site this morning and it is wonderful. I'm just a little bummed, there are no dairy farms or meat farms that sell chicken within 200 miles of where we live.

I can find BEEF and Pork only. I did find a small goat milking farm less then 2 miles from my house... but guess what... they only sell goat milk soap or goats!!! LOL

Oh well.... I just want fresh milk to make my own butter for my baking... I would love some local cheese too... even goat cheese! Mmmm

As for the chicken meat problem. I am going to 'ask' my neighbors if I can purchase their 18 week old Leghorn roosters. They wanted hens only for eggs, and now he's freaking out with the roosters being more then 1/2 of what he bought as chicks. So he has 5 roosters who need 'offed' and he doesn't really want or know how to do it.

I need to come up with a fair price!
