Thank you all for your help. I took pictures, but on my husbands phone. I've found a mobile vet, unfortuantley his is out of town. However, on another string of this forum "Two Crows" sent me a link from Backyard Chickens. I have been following these steps. She has not passed the egg yet, but the swelling has gone down tremendously. She is eating and looks, for the most part, relaxed. If she doesn't pass the egg by tonight we will have to take her in. Wish her and I the best. Thanks again.

Yes, she is a small hen with a large egg. I'm a hug animal lover and I thought raising chicken would be easy. :-/ I'm learning a lot after these past few days. I want to do everything I can to save this girl. I could carless about her ever giving me an eggs.

My vet suggested that when I have one that's egg bound that I give fluids and calcium and place her in a warm bathroom full of steam. Calcium dose is 50mg per pound twice a day. She also has me give Meloxicam, but most people don't have that.

I have only been a chick owner for a couple weeks, so haven't experienced this with chickens yet. I did have an egg bound Cockatiel once. I boiled a pot of water on the stove then CAREFULLY held her so her vent was right over the steam...at a safe distance so the steam didn't burn, I also rubbed oil on her vent. Numerous sessions of this over a day or two and she laid the egg and was fine. She was not hand tamed when we started, she never tried to bite me and after this ordeal ended up hand tamed...she must have been thankful :)
