I have searched online unsuccessfully for a Rhode Island Red breeder. I would like get my hands on some "old type" rhode island reds. I heard about them on the slow food arch of taste website and I have been trying to find somewhere I get a hold of some chickies.

I got most of mine from Ideal Hatchery and a few from a lady down in Tupelo. If you use Ideal you can get about 10 if you want you just gotta spend $20 - $25 on your order instead of ordering 25 chicks like some other places.
They lay a nice Big Brown Egg.

I am getting 25 Heritage Breed RIRs from Sandhill Preservation Center. These are straight run. I also had difficullty finding true RIRs. Nothing against hatchery production reds, I just like a big tall RIR roo struting his stuff around the yard. You can check the site at www.sandhillpreservation.com
