Looking for a sound monitor device

I just recently lost my last hen from my original flock to a predator. I have put netting over the top of their pen. The base of the fence has logs so nothing can dig under. I am at a loss as to how something is getting in. I had a lightbulb go off earlier though. The pen is under 1000 yards away...if only I had some sort of sound monitor similar to a baby monitor that would let me know when something is going on at night (when I'm assuming this is happening) I can catch the predator and put a stop to it. Weatherproof baby monitors are very expensive though. Does anyone know of a something like what is id need? A sound monitoring device that can be out in the elements...if possible only turns on when there's noise like....motion sensor flood lights? If I need to run electric to the pen to make it work I'll do it but something with a long battery life would be ideal. And won't break my wallet. I don't need video just audio that'll wake me up if something is in the coop I'm sure they'll make enough noise to let me know.

Before you do the monitor thing, can you share some photos of your coop / setup?

Catching predators in the act is many times more risky for your future birds than a coop that varmints can't get into no matter what. My suggestion is before investing in technology that may not help, you do the "tighten up". Photos of what you have will help those offering advice.

I too am thinking of a monitor device, but for the brooder, maybe I worry to much bout the little ones. At the moment my dogs tell me when something is going on, Mr Smith, Mr Wesson and I go take care of it. We have stopped several attacks., without loss.

There area a lot of strategies for predator control. Mine is when the birds go to bed, I'm not far behind them. I go to sleep and never give them a second thought until the next day when I go let them out again. Whatever predator action that goes on outside......takes place....well outside.....not inside the chicken house. Inside...the birds are safe.

I have a different take on the baby monitor question. I’m looking for a baby monitor that I can use to put in my daughter’s room so she can hear the hens in the morning and wake up and feed them. The hens can be heard from my bedroom but not from hers. I’d set it on a timer but I want live audio from the hens.

I have a different angle in the baby monitor question. I want one to use as an alarm clock with live audio of the hens as they wake up. Anyone done this?
