Looking for a Yearling Peahen in NGA area

Quote:
People want more hens than peacocks, so if breeders sell off the hens they are stuck with a surplus of boys. Easier to sell a pair than a lone male. Hens will always sell.

Bingo. Extra males can "stay around" for years while females usually sell out within weeks or months at most. BIG difference. I never sell females only if the numbers are equal.

If you really don't want them to breed & you like guineas.. get a couple young female guineas and keep them in with the males. Those will help keep the males around.. some guinea females will let peacocks breed them. And if they happen to make babies, no worries they're sterile. Male guineas can get in bad conflicts with peacocks though...

Other than that, if you keep looking and wait long enough, an available peahen will eventually show up.

Well, I do have a female Guinea that free ranges with him, but goes back in the hen house at night. Very interesting!! I have a young group of pullets that he has been displaying for. They are not impressed. haha!

Thanks again...got a line on a couple of young hens. Who knows maybe Ol' Porkchop will have two ladies to keep him company.

Will it hurt to wait until next year to get females for my four boys? I really don't want to keep all of them, but I'm not sure yet which two I'm going to keep, and I don't really have room for eight right now.

They are only coming on 4 months old now, so a long way from breeding age.

I would wait until you have decided who you want to keep, and then based on them decide what sort of ladies to get for them
