I need to order around 10 or so chickens to be used next year as setters for mainly pheasant eggs. What breed should I get that is reliable to sit on eggs, would be available this time of year, and isn't too expensive (no need for show quality chickens)? I was going to get silkies or cochins but they are pretty expensive it seems. I found light brahams but unsure if they would be suitable for pheasant eggs as they are pretty big chickens. Don't know where else to turn, I have been looking online for a week now:( Thanks in advance for any help.

Given the generally smaller size of pheasant eggs, I would recommend bantam breeds. I used silkies to hatch ringneck eggs and would think that bantam cochins would be just as effective.
