Hello,

I recently moved to the Gettysburg PA area and looking for some older ready to lay chickens within an hours drive (to pick up)

I am open to a variety of breeds and like the friendlies rather than flighty varieties. I have lots of assorted breeds in the past, and due to my move have to start fresh with a new flock. I'm thinking of picking a fun breed and trying to keep my lines pure (ha ha- I do LOVE my old mixed chickens). I am an experienced chicken person and right now have only my 3 peacocks I moved with me from Ontario Canada to PA.

I am new to posting and couldnt find anything listed in my "area" . Is there a place on the forum that you can search local listings ? I searched Gettysburg, but only a few posts came up and nothing "for sale". If any experienced users can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks so much-

Maybe Will Marrow of MD would be able to help you.

We are planning on going to Gettysburg this June/July events and I sure hope it is not going to be too hot!

There is a thread called " Pennsylvania Unite " ,,,,, I belong to it, and I'm sure there is someone close to you that may be able to help,,,, there are many varieties available through it's members.

Check it out !

thanks, Ray

Have you found any chickens? I live in Gettysburg and would like to get 5-6 chickens as soon as it gets a bit warmer. I know nothing about rasing them for eggs only.
Do you think I should get older ones? I would love any advice.
What kind I should get?
Coop?
Do they go in coop on there own at night?

I know of a good place in ortanna pa called stacks chicken farm...or something like that...i live in dillsburg pa about 30 minutes east of gettysburg....they have a website so of you google it youll find more info....they carry about 20 varieties of adult chickens. They range in price from 15 to 25 dollars...ihope this helps!
