Hello all! I am new to chickens. Late winter I started building a coop, got my permit, and then 3 chickens from Tractor Supply. They were supposed to be sexed, but turns out I got 2 roosters and only one hen.

As of this moment, I still have the one rooster (I just figured out it was a rooster this morning). So I need some help.

  • Is anyone interested in a free Rhode Island Red/Barred Rock mixed rooster?
  • Does anyone have a couple of young, several month old, egg laying hens they would like to sell me?

I don't want to start over from day old chicks again, and most of the online vendors will only sell 25 minimum, which I don't have room/permit for.

Thank you!

:welcome glad you have joined us.
But so sorry about your predicament.

I think you need 20 posts to be active in the buy/sell forums.
You could try listing the roos on Craig's List?
Try calling your local Ag Agent - they may know some local breeders - and their bulletins have buy/sell ads that may help?

Good luck in rehoming the fellows and getting some more gals.

Welcome to BYC. Roosters are generally difficult to rehome - just because of the sheer number of them. If there are any farmers near you, they might take them.
