My family and I are l hoping to start our first backyard flock and we're looking for day old (or very young) chicks to start out with. We need breeds that are good egg layers of large eggs, lay a variety of colors (kids would love it), are friendly and docile, and that free range well. I don't want to have any shipped, I'd prefer to pick up in person. Here are some of the breeds we're looking for but not limited to as we're new to this and there may be some other good breeds that we don't know of yet.

barred rocks
Americaunas
easter eggers
welsummers
Marans

Thanks!

I have some bantam cochins ready to go. I just posted an ad. But I am willing to deal on price.
I am located on the NY/Pa border near Knoxville Pa.

Just read your ad. How far are you willing to drive? We're about 3 1/2-4 hours away from you near Altoona. We weren't really looking for any bantam breeds because we wanted hens for egg production BUT we have 2 kids who would love a chick each of their very own to name and care for :)

Bantams lay very nice eggs but I am sorry I wouldn't drive so far in winter for just 2.
Good luck finding what you need. I DO have 5 light brahmas about 5 mos old but I have no idea yet who is a hen or a roo.
You're welcome to those for a fair price but only if you came here. They are BIG! and I only have a lil car.

Lol I wouldn't expect you to drive the whole way. Thanks for thinking of us though. The brahmas wouldn't work out for us as we don't have a coop yet. We're going to start building one over the next month or two. I don't think we coukd afford the gas to drive the expedition all the way way up there anyway (its either expedition or prius and the prius is small lol). Good luck finding good homes for them but I doubt that'll be a problem at all :)
