Looking for egglaying chicken breed: Help me make a choice please!

Thank you for that answer!
I still can't decide lol...
If I can, I think I'm going to mix the species.
It would be nice to see differents behaviors, colors and easier for the kids.

So, Rhode island are now in my choices too.

I'm also interrested in Ameracauna now. But I think some chicken that look like them are called easter egg... Am I wrong?
How can I be sure of the breed ?

It would be fin to have eggs of differents colors :P

And no one would go for ausatrlorp?

Easter eggers are generally better layers than Ameraucanas because of hybrid vigor. They are a lot cheaper too, and color patterns are limitless!

Austrolorps are a good choice.

If you buy from a feed store or hatchery, they will probably call their "easter eggers", Ameracaunas (or even worse, Aracaunas). Not to worry, they will lay lots of nice colorful eggs in any case. Our EE's layed well all through this last, brutal, winter. It's hard to go wrong with anything called and Ameracauna or EE.

Okay, then I will try to find a Rhode island red chicken, a plymouth rock, Ameracauna or easter egger and if I do take a forth one, i'll get whatever I can find between australorp and sussex.

They would all go along fine?
Are they fine breed to live in a coop with a run?
And how big should be the coop and run for 3 or 4 chickens?

Thanks a lot! :D I can't wait to find those chicken!

I am a BIG fan of Wyandottes, they are absolutely hands down the most friendly breed I have ever encountered. They are dual purpose meat and egg birds, and they lay well & for many years.

Reall? And are they aggressives against other hens in your experience?
I just found some near my city :p

I have wyandotte males and females in a mixed flock. the wyandotte rooster has never shown any aggression, and the wyandotte hen is at the top of the pecking order but she is never brutal or mean to the other hens. as chicks, they flew out of the brooder onto my shoulder, it was so endearing. I keep a lot of interaction with them, and they are very friendly with me. the hen sits on my lap any time I am outside.

I have 3 Black Austraulorps. They are very nice. They lay about everyday. Nice birds.
I have 2 Silver laced Wyandottes. They lay about every other day. They are pretty also. They seem to eat a lot though. They aren't fat and can't walk and stuff like that but whatever.
I have 4 ISA Browns. They laid when it was -40. Nice big brown eggs. You said though that you aren't going to get them though.
I have 4 EE's. I least get 2 eggs a day. Lot's of times more then that. They are nice.

Now the best breed that out of those are my White Rocks. Awesome layers. Laid every day for 3 years. They quite in the fall on their 3rd year. They started back up this spring nice eggs.

Now Leghorns are suppoed to be supper layers but flighty.

Rhode Island Reds are good layers. Some can be nice or mean.

There are lot's breeds yo chose from though!
