Looking for fly-tying feather

My hubby is an avid fly fisherman and we moved to Northern Alberta, Canada 10 years ago, left the west coast of British Columbia, in our move up here he unfortunately lost all his fly tying feathers in the move and sorely misses being able to tie his flies. If anyone know were to get feathers from leave me a pm. He likes Barr Rock feather, but is willing to try other types and is thinking if he can find of good source starting a little business up here! I would like to try tying flies also but with all my animals I don't think I could find the time. Hope to here from some members! Thanks to all who respond and I just love it here!!!

I don't know much about fly-tying. What feathers do you need. Does this need to be part of a butchered bird? Let me know. Thank you.

Hi happycountryhens,

My hubby's here and he says that the birds are skinned with skins treated with borax or tanned to keep the feathers in a cape where they are plucked as needed to tie flies.

He has only skinned a male starling for a particular fly and a couple of muskrats.

Most of the feathers on the birds can be use for different flies.

Neck and tail feathers are the ones mostly used.

I know there are several reliable sellers on ebay. A wide array of feathers to choose from.

I pulled off all the feathers from a young barred rock that was killed, but I think it was a pullet so no pointy neck feathers. I also have a bunch of feathers pulled off a light brahma roo by a hawk. Send me a pm if you are interested.

I don't have any for you, but I suggest guinea feathers. When I showed my father a guinea feather, he commented, "Oh, I remember those from fly-fishing."
