I use vasoline and sometimes Bag Balm. I put it on before they go to roost at night. As long as you have well ventilated coop, it should help. My understanding is that when moisture from their breathing cannot escape properly (vents) then the moisture settles back down on their combs and frostbite develops. If it is extremely cold, Massachusetts, I make sure the vent is open and even add a bit more circulation.
