ISA Browns, Production Reds and Golden Comets.
All hybrids designed to grow quickly and produce lots of eggs early on. Tend to be rather docile too. We have all 3 breeds in our flock.

ISA Browns and Golden Comets (and red sex links in general, I think) are known for their friendly disposition and almost daily production of large brown eggs. They are also quite cold hardy. I have 10 pullets currently and they are, by far, the most friendly I've had, several of them are "lap chickens". Good luck in your search for what works best for you!

Rhode Island Red, Leghorn, Sussex, Plymouth Rock, Ancona, Barnevelder, Hamburg, Marans, and Buff Orpington are some of the best egg laying chickens.

I highly recommend Orpingtons, Plymouth Rocks, Golden Comets, and Sussex. They are good layers, friendly, and cold hardy.

I'm sure you're right about that but my Buff Orps and Americaunas weren't nearly as friendly..not sure why?
