We just brought home 6 little chicks, they are still fuzzy, the man said put a 60 watt bulb, but after reading this site, I have learned if the chicks are balled up under the light it means they are still too cold. (I thought they looked cute and cozy) So I just put a 100 watt bulb in. The chicks are in a 10 gallon aquarium with the top just vented a little and the bulb ontop were the fish pump use to be. Does this sound ok. I have them in my laundry room. thanks for any help.

If they are spread out and sleeping they are comfortable and fine.

Welcome to BYC. Enjoy your chicks!

A 60 watt bulb worked great for my chicks in about the same size container you have. A 100 watt got to be too much for mine in that small of a container. For the first week or 2 I cover the container with a down blanket to hold in heat. That way they can move away from being directly under heat, but they still have warmth.
