I want to build a nest for quail that predators can’t get into, what material do I need and how can I attract them to the nest?

For wild quail?

Unfortunately, if a quail can get in, so can a rat or a weasel, pretty much. I'm also not confident you can guarantee it wouldn't be same said rat nesting in there.

Probably the best thing you could do it grab some groundcover seed mix meant for your local natives and start cultivating natural food plots for them. You will see all sorts of critters!

Yes I have quail running around and I want to help them build up their flock so I was going to build a nest for them to hide in so the birds, cats, and coyotes can’t get them. I want to make it like the quail would

*Most* species are relatively groundbound and somewhat averse to going in things like unfamiliar boxes, so I'd stick with the natural plant theme and try and increase the amount of shrubbery, tall grasses, etc around your property. Lots of cover + increased grazing sprouts and insects and maybe a few small fresh clean water sources and you will have happy happy birds without attracting too much attention from predators :D

I defiantly don’t have a water source and I was going to make the nest out of a screen then cover it up with brush

Worth a shot! Just make sure it doesn't look like a snake hidey-hole which seems to be their main motivation for avoiding certain good-seeming nesting spots.

Sounds like you will be an excellent wild flock parent!
