Hello everyone! I live in central Louisiana, and am looking for a breeding pair of ducks of the Ancona, Saxony, or Appleyard variety. Ducklings are preferred, but I realize that they have to be a few weeks old before their breed can be determined. Anyone in my area with these breeds? Message me! Thanks!

Well, I am in Ga. I guess that would work if you decide to visit Atlanta;) I have Saxony from Holdereads birds.

Hi mommameg! I too am from Louisiana, around Shreveport. I haven't found anyone local that has Saxony or Appleyard. I too have been looking for some locally, but have been unable to find them. I do have some mail order sources if you are interested. There is usually a minimum quantity limit, though. If you are only wanting a few ducklings, maybe we could make a "joint" order.

Thanks a lot! I'd like to get your input as to what makes saxony ducks a desirable breed to have. I'm new to the duck game and am in a dilemma. I'd like to get a rare or endangered breed. It makes me a little sad to think of a breed disappearing, you know? But I'd also like a good layer. I'm looking at Welsh Harlequins, too, now, because they seem to have a good temperment and lay exeptionally. But I know their eggs are a bit smaller than eggs from larger breeds. So give me your opinion. I'll quote another poster I saw earlier, "I'm information hungry!"
