I purchased this pullet from one of our local feed stores earlier this year. The chicks were labeled as Copper Rock Marans. I can't seem to find much info on this breed, other than that they might also be known as Midnight Majesty depending on the hatchery. I'm curious if anyone might have some insight on these birds?

She's an absolutely GORGEOUS girl. But her personality leaves soo much to be desired right now 😅. I think she was close to 1 week old when I purchased her. I handled her regularly since that point but she has still become ultra flighty. Now, I can only catch her when she's roosting. I'm still very new to the chicken world but am finding that I prefer to hatch my chickens - then I'm in contact with them since day 1. All my chicks so far have grown up to be very friendly chickens (knock on wood). Is this breed usually flighty? Is there any chance she'll become more friendly with time?

Other than that, she's super inquisitive. She will follow you around all day. But her only language seems to be biting - for snacks, for whatever you might have in your hand, etc. I'm not sure if there are ways to get chickens to be more gentle - but suggestions are most welcome!

Other questions:
- She's 21 weeks old now... Should she be close to laying?
- Will her eggs be some shade of brown?

Thanks for reading!

(The shiny, sunlit photo is a couple of days old, the others are about a month old I think)

Hi, hope you're enjoying BYC! :frow

A type of black sex link.. called different names by different hatcheries.. also known as dominant copper but here's a link to a hatchery with that specific name..

ETA: why they would have to be "imported" according to that link, seems irrelevant to me. Also as a cross, they cannot really be called a "breed".
