Hello everyone - I've already introduced myself but I havent been very active on the site much. So far, I have a coop, have a run, need some supplies for water/feed/etc.. but really I am stuck on where to get my birds. There are just so many options and coming from a background of adopting all of my dogs, the whole breeder aspect of chickens is new to me. Just screams out like a puppy-mill business (but for chickens of course).

Was hoping some of you could help ease my mind to this or refer me to some reputable breeders or if theres someone local to me that's reading this, can point me in the right direction.

I live in north county San Diego and dont mind driving a bit to get to a good place

Thanks!

Welcome to BYC

If you look through the Where am I - Where are You section of the Social Forum, there are several Cali threads. Check in there to meet some more local folks. Just like with every other animal there are good and bad breeders - getting to know other BYCers in your area may lead to some good birds.

You could also check into any hatcheries if you do not mind shipped chicks. The only problem is that many hatcheries have slowed down or completely stopped hatching for the season. Good luck finding what you are looking for.
