Hi, I'm in WV and looking for Orpington and Barred Rock eggs from breeders. Please pm me if you have any to sell/send. Thanks! Suzanne

Hi, and thank you for your reply! We are looking for heritage meat birds. I've seen buff orpingtons listed, but not blue orpingtons. Does color make a difference? (I hope that is not too silly a question, we have never raised meat birds before.) Would you recommend these as meat birds? Thanks! Suzanne

If I were going to raise meat birds I would get broiler chicks from a good hatchery. If you are looking for heritage meat birds then just about any heavy breed will work. I would probably go for some variety of Plymouth Rock or Rhode Island Reds. They are a little faster growing than the Orpington and they have yellow skin. If you want a beautiful bird that you can eat an orpington is a good choice. "horstmanspoultry.com"
