Another vote for Hawaii! I grew up in michigan and have been living in Hawaii for 13 years. You can customize your location to suit your lifestyle. Dont like it too hot? find a place that is above 1000 ft elevation. We live at 1000 ft and we sleep with blankets every night and dont even have AC or ceiling fans. In the dead of winter sun set is around 6:30 and in the longest days of summer it sets at 7:30. If you like country living, the neighbor islands (maui, kauai, molokai, lanai) are very low key and rural. Like lots of shopping and restaurants? O'ahu is home to Waikiki (tourist central but also with great beaches and dining. Living in the north shore of o'ahu has all the rural living, world famous beaches, and is still an hour drive from all the city living. You have to have a strategy when choosing public schools, but most areas have 1 or 2 great schools and there are plenty of good private schools (they are just expensive). If you have S.A.D. you would do well in this climate.........
