I played with timbers while DH watched and we decided rectangle pond and 6x12 or maybe 8x12 (depends on what I find for liners and prices).
Thinking about 1 foot above ground or so (4-5 landscape timbers high) and I'd either dig down or have him dig down with the tractor when he's not broken (waiting for knee surgery).
So that's what we are thinking as far as pond. Build the pond and then create a skippy type filter on one end.
I'd like there to be at least some shade, but we can build that if needed. DH likes the idea of cover for predator protection as well - harder to see from above if the pond is covered by trees... but then that mess is in the pond with duck mess.
I took these pics about 30 mins ago, so a bit after 2 here.
From the top of the deck steps looking over the close back yard (it goes back about 1000', but you can't see the vast majority of it from the house)
Looking to the right (dark dead grass spot is where the shed was until we moved it once the garage was done last month) - toward the center is a water spigot.
Looking to the left (old owner had a pool - that's where the sand spot is and Jet and stuff from where we dragged out the top layer of the garden to get it ready to make into a garden - garden is on the left side of the pic behind all the green fence)
More off to the left
From the back toward the house - ignore all the crap - still a work in progress, slowly since it is just me doing it now and I'm tired of doing it alone while DH is broken
Another view of the spot where the shed was. Dh suggest this place. But it is full sun, so I suggested we'd have to build a pergola or something to provide shade and overhead cover
From the back over toward the old pool and garden area
Ideally, some point in the future, the area under these trees will have a hot tub area and some plants and stuff, but who knows if/when that will happen
DH also thought under the trees was a good option for the overhead protection it would provide the ducks
That left side again with some idea of where shade is
potential pond size - 6x12 or 8x12
So what do you think... where should it go?
We can get power out there for a filter pretty easily, but the closer to the house, the closer to power. The closer to the shed, the closer to power.
The patio blocks stacked up around the duck yard fence - sidewalk... along that fence - on hold until DH can help me with that. I suggested maybe along the edge of the sidewalk (I actually said two of them and 3' wide so they could do duck races down the sidewalk LOL). The sidewalk will be edge in landscape timber to keep them in place - water runs off the neighbor's property into ours, you can see where in some of the pics, and floods the area between the deck and close bunch of trees when it rains, but it goes away quick - but the timbers will help keep the sidewalk where it belongs instead of letting all that water wash it out. So we could use a pond to help divert water too...
I vetoed IN the duck yard as I'd like to be able to see it from the deck (those holy trees will move at somepoint... somewhere. Neither of us like that they block the view from the deck).
So? Where would you put it?
