Stay away from big, fluffy birds. Sussex, Favs, Cochins, Orpingtons, etc. They do not tolerate heat as well as other breeds. I would suggest Sumatras, Minorcas, White Faced Black Spanish....

the roosters are great and egg producing is phenominal...
i really am not quite sure about meat though... thats something to look into...
We got our chickens to lay eggs so I truly dont know....

I have to throw in my Black Copper Marans The Roos are nice and the hens handle SoCal heat well. They are DP , they are large. A few are broody forage well and hard to see. The eggs always are popular

Yes, i know this, i was just reiterating that BR's are dual purpose because i did not specify it in first post.

RIRs, Black Australorp, and Barred Rock would be my suggestion. I've had very good success with BRs and RIRs. My neighbor has very good success with BAs.
