Hello, This is my first post! I have been looking for true
New Hampshires that are show quality for a long time. I have only
been able to find production lines. Seems like every time I think
I found some they are in the U.K.. They have some nice birds over
there. Im amazed that it has been this hard to find some. Do any
of you know anyone that may have some? Thanks

Welcome to BYC. I wished I could help you. I bought two New hampshire pullets from Orchlens Farm Store which get their chicks from Estes Hatchery in Missouri. They both the friendliest chickens I got. I can set up my lawn chair in their pen and they will jump into my lap. So they are easy to handle. They are very healthy and vigorous but one is quite of bit darker with more black flecks on her and the darker one is also a larger bird. Try posting in the new member section then some more experienced members can get aquainted with you.

Sorry I can't help you. With 38,000 members, that has to be someone.

Did you do a search here?

Oh, and BTW..

Welcome to BYC we are so glad you are here.

Thanks guys for the welcoming!

I have been asking around for
a while now. Im from Mass, and for a breed that started right
next door in New Hampshire one would think it would be an easy
find?? I wish there was a way that I could get eggs or chicks from
over seas. Take a look at the birds this guy has- http://www.ridgewaybank.co.uk/ These birds have the same
look of the old drawings or paintings that you see in the
catalogs from different hatcheries. Even the shapes are different
than most birds Ive seen. Im very impressed.
Its a shame that the quality of our birds here in the states seem
to have gone down hill, to my eyes anyway. When I first got
chickens 20 years ago I ordered from a big well known hatchery.
I thought that my birds were going to look like the birds in the
photo but looking back they were not even close.

Thanks again, and Ill keep on searching!

Thank you Herechickchick! Is there anyone here that can help
critique his New Hamps? I know that the photos state that
the bird in the photo is still a young cockerel and it still has some
filling out to do, but do these look like good stock as far as
eventually wanting to put them in shows? Is it common to have
the tail hang a little low like the photo when the bird is young?
I like the high tail and rounded body like the one in the photo
that I attached above. I dont expect to start off with perfect
stock, but I would like to come close. Thanks again.

Do you have the 'standard of perfection" It would be a good place for you to start to fix in your mind what you are looking for. I know very little about the New Hampshire's but I do know that in general Braden does not breed junk. He is a humble man that is quite dedicated to breeding good birds.

I did get my Poultry Press today and there is a phone number for a person that is one of the club members. I am not sure about posting phone numbers on this site so will PM that number to you.

Good luck.

Great horse, Thank you very much. I do not have the standard
breed of perfection book. It is something I would, and should
get. Do standards change at all? I notice that there are books
available but the years are different. Braden returned an email
that I sent him. He sounds like a nice guy. At this time he doesnt
have anything available. I did get your PM that you sent. Thank
you very much, and I will contact them both. Thanks for keeping
your eyes open. Hope all is well, Joe

I don't know if he has any left, but you could try Matt John, he has/had very nice New Hamps. Email at info AT poultrymansupply DOT com.
