Looking for very friendly good layers for backyard

I keep a fairly large mixed flock, I think there are about 35-38 hens and three roosters out there. 5 or 6 of which are Gold Laced Wyandotte hens. They do tend to rule the coop, however, every flock has a pecking order. There is always a bully, that's just chicken life. They lay fairly well and are very friendly, and in my humble opinion, are some of the best looking hens in the coop. Silver Laced are truly my favorite.

I have had dozens of Wyandotte hens and don't remember any that were broody. But my memory for such things isn't all that great.
They are so lovely! And good point about the pecking order... that's the problem with me having all this time waiting for the chicks to arrive... I'm sure I'm over analyzing my choices. Probably driving my husband crazy ;)

I keep hearing recommendations for orpingtons and wyandottes. I may have to rethink this 😁

Thank you all so much; this has been soooo helpful! I am a planner and have spent so much time researching what breeds to get. I think I've overthought some of this! I know my husband thinks I'm crazy. 😊 I think I'll be placing an order tomorrow for a bielefelder, australorp, buff orpington, light brahma, silver wyandotte, & easter egger. I'm very excited and really wish we were allowed to have more in our neighborhood bc I'd love to get multiples of some of theses breeds! You've convinced me to try a few breeds I was hesitant to try but everywhere I look on this website I keep seeing how much people love orpingtons and wyandottes. 🙂

I have barred rock lslands, buff Orpingtons and ISA. My flock is quiet and friendly. buff Os are the sweetest and my barred rocks are demanding of my attenion. They will be in your business . The ISAs personality hasnt stood out but the eggs they give have. They are docile and easy but not the little love monkeys the buffs are or want to be six inches from you when you are working on things like the B rocks. I have been around a few speckled sussex and can see how they could give a buff a run of their money as sweet.

Are you allowed to have roosters where you live? (Just in case you end up with one (or more.)
