Hello!

My name is Amanda and I am currently chickenless. We are planning a move up to New England in the near future - and a more rural home means we can get chickens!! I'm joining to hopefully connect with other folks in NE (specifically north-eastern VT!) and learn more.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

No chickens yet!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I plan to start with 4 or 5 :)

(3) What breeds do you have?

When we get chickens we will be in a cold climate - so mainly looking at Wyandottes, RIRs, and Orpingtons. (Specifically buff and lavender!) If anyone has any other suggestions for cold hardy birdies please do share!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I'm looking forward to having some buddies outside. We live in an urban area so we are lacking that where we are now. Hoping to connect more with nature and better connect with our food sources! (Though we are only going to raise for eggs)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I love to crochet, bake, and read!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

No kids, 1 husband, many cats, and a couple dogs!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I've known about BYC for a little while - but now that it's looking like we're going to move to a more rural area, and chickens are in our future, I'm finally taking the plunge to join!

Welcome! And congratulations on your upcoming move!
You definitely landed on the right spot, and planning ahead for chickens is way better than getting chickens and then trying to figure it out (don't ask how I know) :highfive:
