I have wanted to have chickens my whole life. I am finally moving to a place where I will be able to do that. I live in Northern Wisconsin so I'm going to be searching for information on the best breeds to cope with cold and snow. I'm in the process of moving in now, so I don't know if I'll be able to do it this year, or have to wait til next.

Thanks in advance! :)

Find "Where am I, where are you." thread so you can locate your state thread and post on it. Others from you area will be able to offer the best advice on coop/run, and breeds to survive the winter

Love my chickens. Best move I ever made.

A friend is going to give me two or three (she hasn't decided who she can part with yet but needs to get rid of some) grown hens. I don't want to pass up the opportunity since I wanted to get grown ones at first, but it's a little sooner than I was ready for. I'll hurry up and fix up a place for them. Do chickens need a minimum number to be happy? I imagine they don't like to be alone, but is two (or three) enough? Thanks for all the links, I've been reading and have written down several breeds that seem good.
