Looking to help with chickens

Hello, I am looking for any local farm, family or program that is open to letting my 10 year old daughter come to help you with your chickens. She is a real chicken person. We used to have 22 chickens and she took very good care of all of them and feels empty without having them in her life now. We moved to a townhouse and are not allowed to have chickens but came up with the idea that maybe there are programs, like 4-H or a local family or farm that she could volunteer to help and grow in her love and knowledge of this fine birds on a regular basis.

If you put your location (state) in your profile that will help people. I’m sorry that your daughter is missing her chickens. I am pet free for the first time in 16 years . It’s hard getting up every morning and not seeing my girls greet me. I’m getting more in March but it’s still torture waiting. Maybe you can get a bantam rooster as a house pet for her. Many people keep house chickens. Good luck.

Contact your nearest agricultural extension office. They operate the 4-H groups in each state and can get you connected to a group near you.

As another greeter suggested, you might try having a house chicken. You can check out "people with house chickens," thread to see if it is a possbility. Maybe try a bantam breed.
