Looking to jump in the meat birds?

I like Schlecht, but then, they are close enough to me to ship overnight easily. For the number I ordered (40), the price plus shipping was better than the rest too.

I ordered from S&G Poultry. I liked the birds (Red Rangers, Dixie Rainbows, and Delawares), they were healthy and all that, but they don't have a lot of meat on them. So we are stuck with 22 chickens in the freezer that are basically only good for soups.

So, just in case you look into them, I'd not recommend purchasing their stock.

Keep in mind that there are a LOT of variables that go with the endorsements here. The basics are; watch the protein % of your feed, make sure they never ever run out of water, decide on "feed at will" or the "12 on 12 off" theory. You can get birds from pretty much any hatchery and feed them a high protein diet, room to walk around, water and they will do pretty good. Stellar? no, but it doesn't take long for a strain of bird to get diluted, with the volume the hatchery's do. You could read a positive review of a type/hatchery then order from them and have a totally different result.

The closer the hatchery, the better off you're going to be. Shipping is stressful. If you can get them in a day they are going to be much better off.

I think that you are Indiana? We had good results from Sunnyside hatchery in central Wisconsin:

They generally only service a five state area of WI, MN, MI, IA, and IL, but if you give them a call you can make arrangements. Their prices include shipping, so I think they have to give you a quote for anything outside of that five state area.

Great advice. On a search on the web seems all the hatcherys where over 2.00 a piece. All of these hatcherys did not come up on a yahoo search or they where so far back I never made it there.
