We are planning to move from Colorado to West Virginia, it's closer to our family and MUCH cheaper. We have a flock of 32 birds all are a year and younger. The original plan is to put our smaller coop on the flatbed and let the birds ride in the there. I was thinking of sectioning it off so that they have a smaller space to limit them being "tossed" around. Has anyone else ever done this, or is it just easier to start over when we get to our destination? The eggs would be nice to have once we get there though.

Big cardboard boxes with lots of bedding. Just give them a drink and bite when you guys stop for breaks. I think the boxes would be alot cozier. I've never done it though. I'm sure someone will give you better advice!! Good luck and I vote, take your babies with you!!!!

The coop is going to go with us, so I thought I would "kill two birds with one stone", um pardon the phrase!

load and haul. They will find a way to make themselves comfortable for the ride and being able to snuggle close to each other will reduce their stress. Instead of dealing with feed and water so much on the trip try wet fruits like grapes and melons. Sometimes more manageable on the road. Offer food water and electrolytes if you stop for a long time like over night.

It's a 24 hour drive, and we'll just truck straight through. I thought that water only might be good on occasion so they don't get upset stomachs. That's what we do with the dogs and they do fine.

WOW! I admire your courage and ingenuity!! AND your commitment to your chicks to take them with you. I wish you good weather, safe travel, and the best of luck with your trip and your move.

Go for it!

Good luck w/ all that lies ahead!! I would be pretty stressed about the task you have to perform, but I believe you have a good grasp on the requirements. Also the members have some great ideas/options to consider, so I will echo their recommendations!!

"Ditto!"

Put some fresh fruit in with them. It offers moisture and some food value. Like cut up apple ,pears or grapes. Good luck with your move. Gloria Jean

Let us know how your drive goes. Personally I would put them in boxes (maybe 3 per box) in your coop so they can't be tossed around and get hurt. How big is your coop?
