Hello-

We live near Philadelphia and are looking to purchase 6 egg laying chickens for our newly built coop! We hope to obtain "teenagers" at around 8 weeks old so that they can go directly in to the coop and start laying eggs soon. Does anyone have a source nearby to purchase these chicks from?

Many Thanks! - Lauren

The average chicken starts laying at 16 weeks. So if you get 8 week old pullets you’ll still have to wait 2 months before they possibly start laying. Unless your plan is to give them 2+ months to settle in.

Best of luck starting your flock 😊

Thanks so much, yes, we were hoping to give them some time to settle in, but a “teenager” of around 16-22 weeks would be great as well! Do you know where we can get chickens of this age locally near Philadelphia?

No, unfortunately. But maybe try reaching out in social media. I’ve heard people join local groups that are chicken related. Maybe you’ll find someone that has some.
