Looks Like A Sore On Back Of Pekin Duck , Size Of Quarter ?

It has taken a year for Maddie to understand that these "creatures" are loved by me and therefore "family." Maddie is a "real" dog allowed to have a "brain" and her own thoughts and opinions. I imagine the dogs that harm so much wildlife - waterfowl are dogs not used to being allowed to think who get loose or are stupidly encouraged by their owners to harm & kill or for good reason have long ago lost all respect for their owner's opinions.
You have a smart dog. My dogs do wonderful with adults but babies have to be kept from them having mini dachshunds with strong prey drives it's just better for dogs and ducklings/chicks to see each other through fencing for a while.

I think Sonny looked better today. The sore - best I could see - looked drier, more scaly, whiter. I'll keep looking over the next few days. Spent a LOT of time sitting where I could fed them by hand: preparing for grabbing him if I have to. Was able to pet the goose (Sheldon) for the first time, touched Cher and Sonny at length... mostly around the beak head area.
Funny, never occurred to me how my dog Maddie would do around ducklings and goslings - just assumed (knowing her) that she would give them a pass - like she does kittens. Last summer, the mallard ducklings had to be constantly yelled at by their mommy and Sheldon the goose to stay away from Maddie. Maddie is all about being the "mommy" the dog park "queen," the nanny raiser of ALL puppies. Human children are also the utmost.

Glad to hear Sonny is looking better, at least getting close to them will help if you ever do have to treat any of them. They trust you.
Some dogs haven't the prey drive as others, It's always a good idea though to be ready if you ever encounter any young goslings or ducklings out on your walks. I hope others that use this area are as conscientious about their dogs as you are. It only takes a second for a dog to kill and if off leash it can happen before the owner has any idea what happened.

Sonny is looking much better yesterday and today. Another person who loves them said that Sonny had feathers pulled out by a "goose." I have to think he means a Canada Goose and not Sheldon the "Big Guy" his friend. OR Josephine and Napoleon who now spend so much time with them and seem so shy and sweet. Some of the Canada Geese on the canal are very aggressive bullies.
Sonny's "sore" looks drier and whiter. Still hard to get a good look at it or photo of it.
He's not climbing up on my up yet like the "Big Guy" - Chinese White Domestic goose. He's just shier of my dog Maddie walking around. He does walk up onto the and at me feet and take treats from hand. Doesn't seem like I'm gonna have to "grab" him anyway; still, good idea to get him comfortable with this in case I do someday.

Sounds great and I can speak about missing feathers since I have 4 drakes and a gander and they do get into at times and yank feathers out, he probably won't grow his feathers back till he molts though. Ganders are especially hateful during breeding season some more so than others but it's just part of their nature to protect their mate and gosling when they hatch.

There does seem to be tiny little white feathers growing back. Area seems whitish pale dry. Could have been, but I doubt the problem came from the pair of Canada Geese that hang around them now. They are so sweet and shy. My wife named them Napoleon and Josephine, I call them Napo and Josie. Up the path and past the raging canal lock in the old part of the canal, our C.Goose friends Novio and Poca are constantly bullied by ganders. The ganders up there seem really nasty. We wish that Novio & Poca would move down to this more peaceful area that Cher (the duck) has discovered. Better to feed them all together like last summer. What a nice family they would all make: I think Novio & Poca would like these new geese: Napo & Josie. Sad, to not spend as much time lately with our favorite of all: Novio the sweet and ever bullied. Never expected to be so caught up in all the sweet personalities and stories of ducks and geese. Everyday now I sit and feed the goose and the two ducks by hand, the goose climbs all over me, paying hardly ANY mind to my dog Maddie about 2 feet away. She now has to work so hard at slowing down to allow him time to get away, getting wings and feathers in her face, long deep skid marks in the mud the other day. Cher, still the boldest in the water of stealing treats from under Maddie's mouth, is the most wary on land; Sonny runs up to me but turns and back to the water if Maddie is spotted - but he is way more at ease with her in the water than last summer when he stayed always at least 6 feet back - now, he takes treats less than a foot away from her staring at her. I thought me might wind up with him here at the house if he had to recuperate or heal: what a concept: him & Maddie wondering around the house. Would have completely sealed the "family" deal though. Wonder what ducklings or goslings we'll see this year? The only ducklings that we were involved with last year were the ducklings from late in the summer that Sheldon The Domestic Goose decided he had to guard. Late every evening, there they were with their mama and our "family." They fascinated my Maddie, the concept of "puppy ducks" was something she understood and loved. The big anticipation is whether Poca and Novio will have goslings. I can actually imagine us all embarrassing ourselves with tears and candles on the canal bank.

That's nice they are feeling clamer around your dog Maddie only problem is they really need to keep their fear of dogs because not every dog is friend. and I don't know how many folks walk their dogs in this area your talking about off leash but that to me is a scary thought. Glad to hear Sonny is getting his feathers back. Sounds like they have really stolen ya'lls hearts.
