After loosing a hatchling my wife came home with 4 more from tractor supply lol so now we have nine. These 2 in the pictures 2 weeks younger than the rest but are much bigger already and one is already getting a red comb so we are starting to think we might have a rooster which my wife is excited about lol

Male. You know it’s a Cornish Cross, right? It’s a mega-meatbird. They grow so fast that the kindest thing to do is butcher them at 6-8 weeks because they grow so fast their heart and legs can’t keep up. They don’t live long and suffer more problems the more they grow.

Yes,male, but as said above, those are meat birds. They need to be butchered at 6-8 weeks.

Welcome from New Orleans. If this is bad news I am so sorry. If your wife wants a rooster. lots of people are looking to give them away. Just make sure someone isn't pawning off a mean boy on you and if you want a particular breed, make sure you can trust the person you are dealing with.

Sorry. If you can't butcher them yourself then I suggest finding homes for them now to someone who is willing. They grow fast and while some people have tried to raise them but it's a ton of work and I think you've already got them to a good size that I may be a little for that.

I'm down in Central Florida so I'll have a look around. My wife and daughter wanted a male do be able to see the hole process from laid egg to hatching. I'll see about finding someone that wants these for meat then as I'm sure it's just inhumane to let them get much bigger. I'm sure she will have a few choice words for TSC now tho. They told her she picked 2 Rhode island reds and 2 leghorns. I have never butchered a chicken just swine so I'd not have much knowledge there lol.

Butchering chickens is easy process as long your mentally ready for the job. There are threads on how it's done.
