Silkie Hen decides to no act broody this morning. She laid an egg last week and never wanted anything to do with it. So we popped it in the bator and 5 days later, nothing developed. Maybe she didn't want it because it was a bad egg to begin with. This week I checked outside and noticed she wasn't out. I went into the coop and there she was, making her nest area. She was moving all the straw around her. I'm hoping this is a sign she's going to lay her egg and actually have a good egg this time :) I wouldn't mind having more silkies. Here she is when I first walked in. I went to go check and no egg yet.

Here is the roo. I'm hoping for some nice Blue's :)

Hens don't lay an egg and immediately go broody. They lay a clutch of eggs and then the broody instinct kicks in if they are of a broody breed. Chickens have no idea whether or not an egg is fertile - they will set on rocks, golf balls, 'nest eggs', or an empty nest when the urge strikes.

You are right. The hen didn't lay an egg. She went back to her normal self a few hours later. Oh well. I won't complain. She's a great pet :)
