i have a 8-9 month old hen that is looking a little ruff, was thinking maybe it was molting. i went outside to look at her and then noticed her underside was almost bald and all i could see where quills. is that normal when molting? i thought it would all fall out, or is this new quills and feathers coming in? i did not notice any pink/red skin or any blood. it was a quick look but did not notice any mites, but i need to take a better look.

i just took another look and she has a few bald spots under her wings too, but acts normal and combs look good.

The skin might get reddish if there are large bald spots. If you can up her protein, that will help her feather in. Try switching her to a higher protein feed, or giving her high protein treats such as sunflower seeds, washed cottage cheese, low-fat plain yogurt, cooked egg or small amounts of cat food.
