Losing about one per day ... :*(

Hey folks, just wanted to post an update! My little hatch is on day 22 and my kids and I were fortunate enough to see an adorable Splash Andalusian baby hatch today! Neither pips nor peeps from the other three, but I'm hoping this little one gets some company ... My first ever hatched chick ...

I named her/him Una or Uno.

OMG that is so funny! We talked about naming our first egg that pipped yesterday Uno too! lool Well, we'll see if he/she makes it. It's been more than 24 hours since it pipped and no zipping yet.. but it's still chirping.
Another chick hatched today and it took only 30 minutes from pip to zip!

Congratulations and good luck with the rest of your eggs

That really is hilarious!! I also considered Primo/Prima and Firstie.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'll post a follow up, and please do the same. Congrats on your first hatch! And good luck! I hope your peeper makes its way out soon!

Glad you had a hatch. I didn't see any mention of Temp or humidity, that could tell a lot. Contamination[if it is the cause] could have happened before you received the eggs.
Hope all goes well from here on out.

Richard

Finally my first egg that pip is out and fully alive! It took almost 42 hours, and I had to help her. I waited as long as I could. She was able to make about an inch wide hole in the egg. I could see her beak and eyes and she was really struggling. I told myself I am not going to help her, and left her overnight. This morning I could really see the membrane was sooo dry and hard for her to break apart. So I went in very carefully and cut her loose. There was no blood and I did it very slowly making sure she was completely ready to come out.. she had absorbed all the yolk. Now she is doing so great! Fluffed up and cuddling with her sibling.
I'm glad I decided to help her. I take the blame, the humidity was too low!

Good luck on your second one!

I'm so glad ot see that you got a chick! YAY!!!

I seem to be the master at killing them before they hatch.... sigh

Thanks, Richard! I kept the humidity at about 65%. My five-year-old daughter sneaked and opened it the incubator to pet the first chick a couple of times, so I'm surprised nothing seems to have gone wrong yet. I'm sorry, Blaundee - I hope your luck changes soon. Jonny, congrats on a successful assisted hatch!

You did well! Guess what, my Una/Uno has a sibling now too! A superfast hatch - I ran to the store, came back, and there s/he was! A little blue or black one - can't tell the color yet. YAY. No more lonely chick!

Here are my two little Blue Andalusians - a splash and looks like a blue.

The only two to hatch out of a total of about 28 shipped eggs from various eBay sellers. I am sure that more would have hatched under the care of a more experienced caregiver.

40-something more are in the incubators - hoping for better odds. Thanks everyone for the congrats!
