Losing chickens left and right

I wonder if a night light would negatively effect the birds at all? Just having one which is just barely bright enough so the birds can see danger approach but not so bright as to simulate 24 hour sunshine?

My light isn't bright and shines downward below where they roost. If they're sleeping when I walk in, the noise wakes them up. They can look straight at me in the dim light. They cluck some hellos. When it gets really cold, I put in a heat lamp. They like it.

We use a 4 watt night light in our coop. It's just bright enough for them to see their way up to the roost so if they had any problems during the night they can see just a little bit.
