losing feathers when feathering out

I noticed that my almost 6 week old australorp chicks have been losing some feathers while they are feathering out- is this normal? There doesn't appear to be any bald spots or damaging pecking going on. I am new to this chicken stuff and couldn't find a thread. Everyone here is so helpful and I love being part of this community.

Sounds like they are molting out baby fuzz and growing new feathers

They are molting it's perfectly normal. Welcome to BYC

I agree with flowerchild88, this is their juvenile molt. Once fully feathered they won't molt again until next year - end of summer to fall. It is amazing how many feathers they do drop.
