Losing my turkey poults...please help!

Heat and medicated feed and vitamins. Even if you need to force feed every 2 hours. I have mailed ordered and had 30% loss. Now I let the hens do it all and life is good. Mom keeps them warm and teaches everything including "property boundaries". One hen this spring took care of 18 with not a single loss. Six weeks later, she is laying on 16 more. Another hen has layed at least 60 eggs this spring but won't ever sit.

Got to warn you though that once you find a good devoted hen, NEVER let her go.

Did you give them softened water? It can give them a heart attack, almost instantly.
When the Turkey poultsget cold thier brain slows down and it is hard for them to recover, Had a few make a come back. We keep the turkey Poults at 90-100 Degrees for the 1st few days. Give them room to move from the heat lamp, when they get warm. At 2-3 weeks we have thier area about 85-90. When they start to get sluggy acting , clean out thier waterer w/ bleach, rinse well and then mix 1 Tablespoon of white vineagar in 1 gallon of clean water. It cleans thier system back to it's natural Ph balance. It works on other poultry too. Last year we lost 20 turkey poults, before a friend that raises Chickens for a living, told me to try it. it worked.

When we have a new hatch of chicks, turkey poluts or ducklings. We use the rubber shelf matting that coems in 5 ft rolls. We cut it to fit the plastic tote, which we use instead of boxes. It keeps the babies from becoming sprateled legged. at a $1.00 a roll it is alot nicer than paper shaving or chips. I just throw it out when it gets soiled and wash out the totes. Keeps the mess from leaking thru.

I would start out by call the hachery. Since turkeys are not the smartest of bird and dont understand how to eat and drink I place a few chickens around the same age in with the turkeys to help show the turkeys how to eat and drink. Also I put feed sacks over the bedding and put a little food hill of food around on top of the feed sacks. Then poked their little heads in the food and water a few times a day. I did not loose one turkey until a snake came along. Then lost 3 but I got him today.

I recently got my poult order from Porters - they recommend putting a little brown sugar in the water along with electrolites/vitamins and a little vinegar. I did that and my poults did great! But discontinue the brown sugar after a few days. Hope the rest survive for you!
