Okay bought 8 new silkie chicks last Thursday. Some were close to a week and some 2 days old and in between.

All did great for the first four days then they started dying. They all looked fine eating drinking running around the brooder.

I have lost 6 of the 8 and have no clue why they were active and seemed healthy. It was a sudden thing too one minute great next lethargic and near death.

Any thoughts?

With that big of loss I would guess coccidias(sp). I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Medicated feed does not prevent the disease, it helps build an immunity. Chicks can certainly get cocci while on medicated feed. Cocci is usually found in wet areas. It's important to keep the area around the waterer as dry as possible.

I don't know Silkie chicks that well, I've read that they are a more difficult chick to raise and are fragile. However, coccidias is everywhere and can attack every breed. It's usually devastating and needs to be treated with Corid.
