Hi,

7 day old broiler chicks suddenly gets a loss of balance ending up lying down with stiff, shaking legs, looking almost like an epilectic.

When i take them to a separate brooding and try to help them to stand up they manage until the slightest of push which causes them to fall down.

They can go from just fine, to seemingly paralyzed in the legs in a matter of minutes.

It is primarily the smaller ones that are affected.

What could cause this and how do i help prevent it?

Can you get some vitamins and electrolytes into them? Poultry Cell or SaveAChick is good. What are you feeding? What is the temperature of their brooder? Are you using a heat lamp that is only for chickens? Some heat lamps can have teflon coating, and may poison the chickens with fumes. The tremors sounds serious. They are not dust bathing are they? Were they shipped to you, and if so, how long were they in the mail?

The temp is about 33-35, a bit on the low side. Feed is a broiler starter from a company called NMA Sanders in Senegal.

They do have dust bins (sand). Would you recommend me to extract them?

They were imported from Senegal (to The Gambia) via truck which is standard procedure here.
