My daughter put hair band’s on 3 of our chicks legs to help her identify them. I noticed it later the same day and removed the bands but the chicks feet are swollen and the nails are black. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We’re very new chicken owners so we are still learning... hopefully not the hard way 🥺

Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry about your chick. Can you post some photos of the feet?
Hopefully the swelling is temporary and there's no permanent damage.

This morning there is a little clear drainage.

Poor little thing!
The blisters will likely pop/drain on their own. To be honest, I would follow treatment in the article below. I know Blooie's chick had frostbite, but wound care for bubbled feet would be similar. I would definitely keep her on puppy pads so shavings don't stick.
Even though there's damage, she may heal just fine.

Very good article, thank you so much. I will try “Scout’s” treatment and see how we do. Again, thank you!!

While you are treating and coming up with other ideas for identifying who is who: There are leg bands you can purchase at your local feed store. Another idea that popped in my head was blukote, this dyes everything purple including hands and clothes. But you would be able to spray some on a paper towel outside and use a qtip to dab a spot of purple on their feathers in different areas. Not sure if this is a good idea but dog breeds will do this once in a while to keep track of which puppy a person has spoken for.
