We just got 15 Red Sex Links about 2 or 3 weeks ago, I'm not sure how old they are, but they're losing their feathers and their skin looks like it is turning a dark purple looking color and ever since we got them their eggs have been really textured and rough. They a bunch of bumps and some of the shells feel wavy. I haven't had this breed before so I'm not sure if it is normal. We also have a few Black Sex Links and Rhode Island Reds and their feathers and eggs are fine and coming out normally as they always have so I'm not for sure if it a genetic thing or if I was given bad chickens....

Protein percentage in feed...No less than 18%..Oyster shell on the side..That breed can be classified under Hybrid or Duel purpose?...Still a more tricky breed as far as Nutrition and housing ...
I have mixed oyster shells in their feed and the pick around them and wont eat them. I buy them laying pellets from our local co op.

Sorry, never mix the oyster shell with feed...Provide in a separate bowl and look at feed for percentage...Possibly only 16%...Not high enough for most layers..Cut out treats/Snacks to once a week and get some feed at 18%
Best of luck...

Also could be the reason the person sold the Birds?....Too Old and not producing properly due to inadequate practices by them?....
No they had like 1500 and were selling them and I traded a goat we had for them. The RIR and Black sex links we bought at tractor supply as chicks in the spring. I can post a picture of them to help you better understand what they look like.

These are 2 of the eggs I got today

I don’t give them anything except for the oyster shells and their feed. And I didn’t mix any shells into the last bag of feed I bought because they weren’t eating them.
