lost 12 young pullets last night

So I hatched a batch of black australorps - I had 12 6 pullets & 6 cockrels.

They were just now 4/5 months old & I started letting them free range yesterday.

I came home from work today & they were all dead - I only found 3 bodies but i found lots of feather piles. Its like a pack of dogs came through and were too full to eat the last three.

I have 6 others in the grow out pen - and 3 more in the brooder with 2 batches of eggs coming next week.

That sucks because these were to be my production stock.

I'm setting two traps tonight - what ever did it will definately come back.

The 3 bodies I found had small puncture wounds - they have obviously been shaken but not eaten or torn open. I'm guessing a pod of coons or dogs.

I killed the darn fox a few weeks ago. I swear I can't kill enough of the darn things.

That is horrible !!!!!!! Man I hope you catch whatever got your babies. This has happened to us once, 2 or 3 pit pulls came got in our run and killed all 13 of our babies. They just left the dead birds and ran off. Seems such a waste. I am so sorry for you

Really sorry! I've been there too..foxes and dogs, and also racoons, possums and owls. I do like wildlife, I just want them to stay out of my chicken coops! The last attack here was a fox that took off with 6 BO pullets in one nite :-/

I know - I lost 6 or so over x-mas to that fox. I finally got him & now this.

I still have 6 older layers & the six 2 month old pullets.

Lets hope my next set of eggs does well. I hate this.

My heart goes out to you. Our (*&$% pit bull killed so many of my pullets yesterday. Two buff Sussex, two Cochins, a light Sussex, an OEG bantam, my beautiful Exchequer Leghorn, a Brown Leghorn, an ISA Brown, an Egyptian Fayoumi, a Polish, an EE, and probably more I haven't realized yet. If not for my son, that dog would be at the shelter now. I know it's a dog but I HATE that animal. I have some left ... but I am so down today ... I'm sorry for your loss. (*&^% dogs.

You lost a ton more than me. I only have a couple breeds. We just ordered 24 buff Orp eggs & 12 frizzle's - If I'm lucky (shipped eggs are touch to hatch) I'll have a few eggers to replace them.

I hear you about the dog - I'd take that thing for a long walk.

So sorry to hear that. I understand the feeling of having all of the birds killed at once. It's like being robbed.
