Well, Jersey Hen don't feel to bad. I ordered from Welp and received 75 Cornish X chicks on the 27th of March (hatch day on the 25th). I live in Oregon but have ordered plenty of other chicks from far away hatcheries (Ideal, McMurray) and have not had any problems. On day 5 I lost 16 of the Cornish X and the next day lost 5 more. They would be fine and eating/drinking and a couple of hours later just dead. I have them in the brooder house with my layer chicks that have been bought from other sources and we have not lost a single layer chick. When I called Welp on day 6 to let them know of the problem they acknowledged that everything I was doing (set-up, food, heat, etc..) was correct. We have been raising chickens/chicks for over 8 years and I have never had a loss like this. They told me that the chicks had come from two different hatcheries (I am assuming Welp and Privett since they work together) and that the ones who died must have picked up a illness at one of their hatcheries but they did not offer to reimburse or replace the chicks. They told me if anymore died this week to call them and let them know. So far, I have not had any losses so I am grateful for that. The difficult thing is the chicks were being raised for customers and that is a huge loss for us profit wise. This is the first time I have ever used Welp. I chose them based on some good reviews I had read, that they "specialize" in Cornish X, and there good prices. I am not sure that I would ever use them again.
