Well tonight did not go the way I'd have liked.

We are dog-sitting for a friend and the young dog has revealed herself as a chicken killer. She's well behaved, but a city dog, and not used to all the happenings of a backyard farm.
She got into the chickens and had a field day. Of course both my dogs (English Pointer and Am. Staffordshire) were hiding in the dog house. (They knew the consequences if they had been involved!)

Anyhow.... Lost 2 hens, a Wheaten Marans and a Barnevelder. My wife was upset. I'm not thrilled.

I guess that's life, right? I was easier on the dog than I would have been my own, since she does not belong to me. Can't really blame her. Instinct. In the city park you chase squirrels and birds and the like. Not here tho, and she didn't know.

It sucks. Thanks for letting me vent.

RIP Goldie
RIP Betty

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss

I must say I am very impressed by your attitude and your willingness to understand the dog's behaviour, which is not always an easy thing to do when it comes to loss of livestock!
