Lost 2 quail today....

Thanks Shelley! I think he's a cutie too

He's passed out on the couch now.

Your neighbors still may have a comeback cage that they use for training their dogs, then if the bird does go in, she won't get out. It might be worth asking to borrow.

Here's exactly what JJMR794 was describing (very well BTW!).....

Good luck!

Hmmm, chocolate for Christmas would definitely make the season a little sweeter! You should think about that Shelley!
A little red ribbon around her neck..... awww, that would be so cute.....

Wont Hurt Any.... You Can Always Place A Couple Birds In 1 Side And Secure It... Just Leave The Other Side Open And Facing Toward The Entry Way To The Barn (that Way When U Come In To Close The Cage With Her In It She'll Go To The Back Rather Than Try To Get Out The Open Door)

With Your Perdatious Rats I Dont Think I'd Leave Any Call Birds In The 2nd Portion Of The Cage Overnight....

Good Luck And Let Us Know How It Works Out For Ya!

You Can Always Take Momma Beagle Out And See If She Can "hunt Her Up" --- If She Jumps The Escapee You Just Watch Where It Goes And Catch It. At Least That Way You Know Where To Look To Try And Catch Your Bird! And After Being Flushed By The Dog She'll Be Tired And Slower To Fly Again--- Thus Easier To Catch!

You know, that would probably work, and I"ve had people tell me to do that before. But my silly chickens are so used to jumping into the feed barrels they'd probably drown themselves! I don't know that I have anything I could cover it with to keep the chickens out of it

These goofy birds should tire out easily, but the other one that got loose had to be chased all over the yard before I finally nabbed her! I won't leave them in the cage overnight, that would be silly. I believe this cage also has 1" wire, but the smaller rats can get into those. That's what my browns were in ( a cage with 1" wire) and I found 3 younger rats inside it one night. They can get in, but they can't get out once they've eaten. At least it takes quite a bit of struggling for them to get away. I'll probably put it outside in the yard some, where I think she went. Though it's hard to say if she's still there. Maybe I'll take one of my crowers from inside out, if it's not still pouring down rain

Wow, that is terrible. Glad we don't have rats here, the snakes are bad enough. I'd get some good cats(have some, want any?). As for the loose one, any of mine that have gotten loose have come back except the one my dog caught and ate

I had one come back after a couple weeks. Maybe he was there the whole time and I just never saw him.

Unfortunately, dad won't let us get any cats. Well, it's not that exactly, but if we did get cats he would have to tie his dog up, and he's not going to do that.

Dad found the one that escaped today. She was laying out in the field near the dogs. We had so much rain yesterday and last night, I figure she must have gotten soaked and chilled

My friend has a great recipe for killing mice and rats. I will ask him the recipe next time I see him. I know one of the ingrediants was premixed cement and as soon as they drink it clogs them up and they die. Hate rats and mice, thats why I just bought the finest gage wire to put on my cage to keep those horrible things out.
