What is a fisher? That's a new one on me--unless it's another name for something...
I'm so sorry about your losses. That is always heartbreaking. I have lost so many I've lost track. And every time, I learn something new about keeping predators at bay.
I do not hurt native predators. They have enough challenges facing them without me adding to their troubles. If that means they occasionally get a meal at my expense, then I will just have to live with that.
Domestic dogs are another issue entirely--I will do whatever necessary to keep them away, even if that means trapping or killing.
My ducks do not like to be in a house at night, so they are shut in a very secure pen. The pen is chain link, with welded wire both over and under. There is hardware mesh secured around the bottom couple of feet to keep raccoons from reaching through (ducks roost on the ground). Everything is very tightly secured, and the gate is both latched and locked with a bicycle lock.
Occasionally, a critter finds a breach in my defenses, and each time I have to make adjustments. But I'm getting better at it.
Good luck with your adjustments. I hope you don't have any more losses.
