Last fall I let the chickens out when I was mowing. Well something came up and we had to leave. We got back after dark and usually the chickens will go back in to roost, but the gate to the fenced in area had blown shut. So 6 hens and 1 rooster were roosted in the tree next to the coop. I figured being in the tree they would be okay for the night. I went up early the next morning and I had lost everyone of them. There were feathers everywhere and only 1 chicken carcass about 50 yds away from the tree. I was thinking a family of raccoons, but I don't know. The rooster was feisty and very protective.
