Crowing
It's been Awhile since I've been around. I had a rough few days in Oct I think it was
In 4 days 8 of my chickens were killed
I was heartbroken.
My first loss was izzy my bantam white crested black polish. I opened the coop in the morning and there she was torn apart. With. Huge pile of poop.
I thought I found out where the jerk got in so I fixed it.
Next day my Luna my sweet cochin bantam and hazel my cuckoo maran
Luna I've had for a few years and hazel was just old enough to start laying eggs about a month before
I finally figured out how it got in the coop.
I fortified it and all was good.
2 days later the other half of the coop which is separate because they just were moved to outdoors a couple weeks before and still getting to know the others
I walked in and my beautiful sweet josie my light brahma who thought I was her mom who followed me everywhere when she was still inside.
And 3 of my 5 little bananas who were only a few months old. A mottled . Mille fleur d'uccle ..and Easter egger.
I bawled my eyes out. My two survivors jinx my buff brahma bantam and Bob my mille fleur d'uccle.
Jinx has a permanent eye injury and no longer can open it.
I picked them up and just held them they were so traumatized.
I brought them inside for the night
I said that's enough. I bought a trap and next morning there the flipping jerk was big old raccoon. Trust me my first thought was not to be kind .. but no matter how much I was upset i did the right thing and released him 10+ miles away
I found the last remaining gap in the coop and fixed it and its been fine since
My other two I lost was in a different coop one i have used until this past fall and the raccoon got in and took them
They were were actually 2 babies from my luna.
But like all my other chickens recently I hatched them and raised them in my home office for months until they could go outside
I have 7 survivors my 4 ducks who share the coop. My oldest hen sally.. she's a NH red and was my very first chicken ever.
And jinx and Bob who did his first real crow today he is the sweetest guy.
The coop they raccoon got is was a wood shed I just converted this fall I thought I had it all safe.
I honestly have been so sad about it. They brought me so much happiness
Here are my survivors
